Fly Rod Reel Seats — Aluminum Uplocking & Downlocking
The foundation of every great rod build. Choose yours.
Why the Reel Seat Matters
The reel seat is more than a functional component — it's the visual centerpiece of your rod build. It's where your hand meets the rod, where your reel locks in, and where the character of your finished build is defined. A quality reel seat holds your reel securely through thousands of casts, protects the blank, and sets the aesthetic tone for everything above and below it.
Our reel seat lineup is one of the most diverse available — covering uplocking and downlocking styles, skeleton designs, braided aluminum barrels, and a wide range of inserts including burl wood, cocobolo, carbon fiber, cork, and more. Whether you're building a delicate glass trout rod or a powerful two-handed spey, you'll find the right seat here.
Insert Options
The insert is where personality meets function. Here's what we carry:
- Burl Wood — warm, organic, and visually stunning. Available in light burl, dark burl, green burl, multi-colored burl, and honeycomb patterns. A classic pairing for fiberglass and moderate action builds.
- Cocobolo — a rich, dense tropical hardwood with deep red and brown tones. Distinctive grain and natural oils make it one of the most beautiful insert materials available.
- Carbon Fiber — clean, modern, and lightweight. Available in standard carbon fiber and carbon fiber with metallic blue speckles for a unique custom look.
- Cork — traditional and tactile. A cork insert keeps the build lightweight and gives the seat a classic, understated feel.
- Skeleton — no insert at all. The open barrel design saves weight and lets the blank show through — ideal for minimalist builds and euro nymphing rods.
Frame Styles & Finishes
- Standard Uplocking — the most common reel seat style for fly rods; locks the reel hood from below for a secure, reliable connection
- Downlocking — preferred by some builders for balance and aesthetics; the locking hood sits at the bottom of the seat
- Braided Barrel — a textured, woven aluminum barrel adds grip and visual interest to the build
- Decorative Lock Rings — machined detail rings elevate the finished look on premium builds
- Heavy Aluminum — extra-thick walls for two-handed and saltwater builds that demand maximum durability
Available in Gun Metal, Black, Silver, and Brass Gold finishes to complement any blank color and thread combination.
